We were redesignated as a Specialist Sports and Science College in November 2007 and are the Ogden Trust Physics Hub for South Yorkshire.
The school converted to an Academy on 1st November 2013 in conjunction with City Academy Wakefield, an Outstanding School serving a similar community to Balby and Hexthorpe.
The school currently has 1300 Students, including over 300 in the Sixth Form.
Balby Carr is home to several sporting Academies, including Football, Boxing, Golf, Coaching and Teaching, BMX, Sports Medicine and Rugby League Academies.
A new (2012) Sixth Form Centre is now open at Balby Carr for Sixth Form and Academy of Sport students. An internet cafe and state of the art Media Studio are situated within.
The school's Music and Drama department put on yearly sell-out productions; most recently Bugsy Malone, Alice in Wonderland, We Will Rock You, and in 2013, Hairspray.
Our previous Sports College status has brought with it state of the art sports facilities with a floodlit Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), re-turfed grass pitches, outdoor gym, full sized, floodlit third generation football pitch and changing facilities, new (2012) international standard BMX track, and a planned 7,000 seater stadium in conjunction with Doncaster Belles, all of which will continue to develop our extended schools agenda.
